Hope Half Hour 2023

I’m doing the Hope Half Hour this January.

Every minute, someone in the UK is diagnosed with lung disease. Asthma + Lung UK is the only UK charity that fights for everyone’s right to breathe. The Asthma + Lung UK helpline gives on average half an hour of support to everyone who contacts them.

I’m doing the Hope Half Hour, walking half an hour every day in January, to make a difference. Every pound I'm able to raise will take us a step closer to a world where everyone has healthy lungs.

Just £22 allows one of Asthma + Lung UK's nurses to answer a call on the Helpline, offering potentially lifesaving advice. I'd be very grateful for any donations you could make!

5th January

So the walking and fitness is going well! I have meetings all day so struggling to fit in the walk. Got off my chair and have walked on the spot like a mad woman prior to next teams meeting!
The weather is damp and wet so I am having to do the steps indoors which seems to take longer......

I wish I could go out to the park and do a few laps.

I have had itchy skin and terrible reaction to the trees outside so I am playing it safe staying indoors.

Onwards and upwards.....

Well I never! 3 day down.... and I am feeling great 😎

In Memory of Malkit Kaur

Monday 2nd Jan
1st January went well and I managed to walk for one hour and did 10k. The walk was a challenge as 2022 has been a terrible year racked with pain and unbearable heartbreak.
Walking is a way in which I have promised myself better health, wellbeing and mental health.
Asthma and Lung problems have wrecked my family with acute illness and eventually death.
Today on 2nd January I remember my darling mother who died 23 years ago. She was a true angel and I am sure she is looking down on this venture of mine with pride.
She had lived with severe asthma all her life. Constantly on inhalers and steroids. As a child I remember wanting to give her relief from the pain and exhaustion she suffered. Management of asthma was not understood then especially in the South Indian community. Migrants such as my parents who came in 1950's were so engulfed in their making a home and giving their children a better start that health and well being were low in their priorities.  Looking back the NHS had just been born so most of the population were unaware of how to manage any long term conditions. Getting out of poverty after the war was a priority.
So here I am at the age of 64 wanting to honour my Mum and our family members who are or have suffered from this illness.
I will walk today with my thoughts of an angel who found her wings 23 year ago.
