I’m running the London Marathon 2025 to fight for lung health!
In April 2025, I'll be lacing up for one of the most challenging goals I've ever set – running the London Marathon!
Anyone that knows me knows how bloody hard this is going to be... let's be real, I'm more about drinking cans and eating scran than I am about training plans. My Strava is essentially just a vehicle for like-based dopamine hits, and I only bought a hydration vest because I thought I'd look cool. I don't think it's ever actually stored any liquid, other than my tears.
But I'm not just running for the finish line glory; I'm running for every person impacted by asthma and lung disease. Due to identifying as a Tiny Tim-style Victorian orphan, I've lived with asthma as long as I can remember - and I'm one of the lucky ones for whom it's a manageable, liveable condition. There are so many people out there struggling with lung illnesses day in, day out, in a dangerously polluted environment, and at the mercy of an overstretched, underfunded health service. The numbers are genuinely scary; even before COVID-19, NHS hospital admissions for lung conditions were rising three times faster than average admissions. Lung issues are now the third biggest cause of death, and cost the NHS a staggering 9 billion a year.
So here's the huge reveal; I'm not just banging on at you about lungs for the lols, I'm infact running to raise funds for Asthma and Lung UK - an incredible charity dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by lung conditions and supporting life-saving research. Whether it's helping someone breathe easier or funding research into innovative treatments, every donation to Asthma and Lung UK brings us one step closer to a world where everyone can breathe freely.
This is where you come in; I've got a slightly punchy £2000 to raise, and I'm going to be totally reliant on the amazing support of my friends, family, colleagues and kindly strangers to get me there. I am so grateful for anything you can spare to help me along with my goal and keep me motivated as I question my sanity on a training shuffle round a drizzly London park next February. Even a couple of pounds is amazing - I know things are tough for most at the moment. But with your support, I can help neglected hydration vests realise their dream of actually being worn - and also make the lives of asthma and lung disease sufferers a little more comfortable.
Thank you for being part of this amazing cause! I'll make sure to keep you posted as I navigate this apparent mid-life crisis!
