London Marathon 2025

I’m running the London Marathon 2025 to fight for lung health!

Hi, I'm Jonathan,

I remember the year the London Marathon first started and also thinking "I wish I could do that". Back then I didn't do any running at all. Well now, 44 years later, I'm going to do it!

In a moment of madness I said to my school friend and fellow "a cappella" singer Anita "Shall we do it next year"? We signed up before we could change our minds and here we are! It's not going to be easy and we're both a little bit scared but we'll have each other for company and support all the way!

My wife Catherine has been a long time sufferer of Asthma (and of me for that matter!). We spent many a time in hospitals waiting to be treated and now my daughter, Alice, is working for this amazing charity and supporting so many fundraisers (like me!) around the country!

So, please will you consider sponsoring me? Thank you so much for taking the time today to support me.

Some more about Asthma + Lung UK

-------------------------------------------

Every minute, someone in the UK is diagnosed with a lung condition. I want to make a difference. I'm running the London Marathon 2025 for Asthma + Lung UK, the only UK charity that fights for everyone’s right to breathe. Every pound I'm able to raise will take us a step closer to a world where everyone has healthy lungs.

Just £22 allows one of Asthma + Lung UK's nurses to answer a call on the Helpline, offering potentially lifesaving advice. I'd be very grateful for any donations you could make!

Singing our way across the line ...

Tuesday 17th Dec
So, as mentioned previously, I'm not embarking on this marathon journey alone. I'm doing it with Anita, who I have known since childhood. She is running for MND and, last Saturday, the two of us were singing together in our a cappella group (Academix) and put on a 2 hour Christmas show for a packed audience in Pyrford, Surrey.

We are very grateful to Cate, Cat and Neil who also generously gave up their time to help both of us raise money for our causes.

The hall was beautifully decorated by our little helpers and mulled wine was served to a full house. Anyone who is a follower of Academix a cappella will know that we produce a Christmas video every year. We have done this for the past 10 years and, on this 10th anniversary, it was great to be able to get some of those out again and sing them alongside some of our other favourites like Take on Me, Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree, Shut Up & Dance and so on!

The upshot (aside from a great night for all!) was that we raised a fantastic £1120 which meant that each of our charities received £560.

Thanks to all the family and friends who came out to help us and support us and, of course, the wonderful Academix for giving up their time. Finally, the whole evening wouldn't have been possible without the organisational skills of Anita. She's someone I value highly as my friend and I know I'm going to need her amazing "get up and go" on the day itself!

Surrey Half Marathon!

Tuesday 8th Oct
In preparation for London 2025, Anita and I ran the Surrey Half Marathon on the 8th September. We were both under 2 and a half hours! A good start. Of course, we've had the pleasure of running during the warm summer months in preparation. London will be a bit different with dark evenings and mornings approaching and, most likely, cold and wet weather!

Never mind, will stay focused on the goal, how hard can it be?!?! Well, double the length of a half of course!
