Royal Parks Half Marathon 2024

I’m running the Royal Parks Half Marathon in the fight for breath!

This time last year, we devastatingly lost my Mum and she has been missed greatly every day ever since. In the wake of Mum’s passing I began running very small distances as it gave me that quiet time to process everything that she had been through as well as to help process my grief.

Mum was a very private person, especially regarding her health, and she suffered for many years with her conditions.  By January 2023, she knew her lungs were deteriorating more rapidly than anyone could have predicted and subsequently she required oxygen supplementation in order to get out for her much loved walks with Dad.  Mum’s ‘right to breathe’ was diminishing in front of our eyes which was heart breaking for my Dad, sister and I.  Finally on the 22nd June 2023 she breathed her last breath and flew away. The charity, Asthma and Lung UK, was the main place that my parents gleaned information and provided vital support for her illnesses.

On Sunday 13th October,  I will be running the Royal Parks Half Marathon raising funds for Asthma and Lung UK in memory of my Mum, Nikki Weatherall.  Money raised enables the charity to continue vital research, run support groups, man helplines with nurses and fundamentally keep up the fight for everybody’s right to breathe.

If you are able to donate, even just a small amount (with gift aid), it would mean the world to me, my family and all those out there who are fighting everyday to breathe.  I thank you for all your support. X

Information from the charity:

Every minute, someone in the UK is diagnosed with lung disease.  Asthma + Lung UK is the only UK charity that fights for everyone’s right to breathe. Every pound raised will take us a step closer to a world where everyone has healthy lungs.  Just £22 allows one of Asthma + Lung UK's nurses to answer a call on the Helpline, offering potentially lifesaving advice.
