I’m running the Royal Parks Half Marathon in the fight for breath!
On New Year’s Day, I made the spontaneous decision to run a half marathon in memory of my Mum, who we devastatingly lost in June last year. In the wake of Mum’s passing I began running very small distances to try to help with my grief. So, in October, I will be running the Royal Parks Half Marathon for Asthma and Lung UK for Nikki Weatherall.
Mum was a very private person, especially regarding her health, and she suffered for many years with her conditions. By January 2023, she knew her lungs were deteriorating more rapidly than anyone could have predicted and subsequently she required oxygen supplementation in order to get out for her much loved walks with Dad.
Mum’s ‘right to breathe’ was diminishing in front of our eyes which was heart breaking for my Dad, sister and I. The charity, Asthma and Lung UK were one of the only places that my parents gleaned information and support over her illness. This is why I want to fundraise for Asthma and Lung UK so that they can continue their research, run support groups, man helplines with nurses and fundamentally keep up the fight for everybody’s right to breathe.
To anybody able to donate, even just a small amount, it would mean the world to me and my family. We thank you for all your support. X
Information from the charity:
Every minute, someone in the UK is diagnosed with lung disease. Asthma + Lung UK is the only UK charity that fights for everyone’s right to breathe. Every pound raised will take us a step closer to a world where everyone has healthy lungs. Just £22 allows one of Asthma + Lung UK's nurses to answer a call on the Helpline, offering potentially lifesaving advice.
