Great North Run 2025

I’m running The Great North Run in the fight for breath!

Every minute, someone in the UK is diagnosed with lung disease. I want to make a difference. I'm running The Great North Run for Asthma + Lung UK, the only UK charity that fights for everyone’s right to breathe. Every pound I'm able to raise will take us a step closer to a world where everyone has healthy lungs.

Just £22 could go towards Health Care Advisors and Respiratory Specialists supporting someone with the information they need to live well.

Any support would be amazing in my fight for lung health!

My asthma journey

Thursday 16th Jan
After spending most of my life with asthma I am still learning how to control it at the age of 44. This is due to lack of knowledge because doctors and nurses did not have the knowlege or the correct information to give out to patients. That was the early 1990s but here we are 2024 and so much more needs to be learnt and educated to prevent hospitalisation or even death.

Due to breathing difficulties I was scared of exercise as it made it worse. But thanks to (not a health professional) a great friend I have learnt exercise can help if you start slow and know your limits, and I feel so much better for it. That friend is Viktorija and we help each other in so many ways but for this case its been supporting me in my weight loss and fitness journey. Since we started I have lost over a stone in weight (which helped my asthma a lot) and gone from a resting heart rate from 101 to 66. I can also run or 'jog' as we call it 🤣 for 4 to 5 minutes at a time inbetween fast pace walking on the treadmill which sounds tiny but its a huge progress for me as I thought I would never be able to run or 'jog'. I have also been getting more active by playing badmington with my husband Craig. While playing I can feel when my lungs are struggling and know when to stop and rest.

I also have asthma sufferers in my family so this cause is very important to me and to be registering for the great North Run is a huge challenge and totally out of my comfort zone but feel I'm ready for this.

Any donation is appreciated.

Asthma has felt like a barrier at times in my life too! I felt like I could never run, until I started CaniX with a lovely dog called Whiskey. Jogging in short spurts and much more walking seems to have helped my lungs a lot. I still don't think I could do anything like the GNR though! Good for you, smash it!
