Royal Parks Half Marathon 2024

I’m running the Royal Parks Half Marathon in the fight for breath!

Every minute, someone in the UK is diagnosed with lung disease. I want to make a difference. I'm running the Royal Parks Half Marathon 2024 for Asthma + Lung UK, the only UK charity that fights for everyone’s right to breathe. Every pound I'm able to raise will take us a step closer to a world where everyone has healthy lungs.

Just £22 allows one of Asthma + Lung UK's nurses to answer a call on the Helpline, offering potentially lifesaving advice. I'd be very grateful for any donations you could make!

Thank you! You've all gotten me to my minimum target

Wednesday 18th Dec
Thank you so much to everyone who has donated & shared my fundraising page & everyone who has sent emotional support & good wishes. Your support means the world to me. I've reached my minimum target! But I'd love to continue raising more, if I'm able. The donations are wonderful, but more importantly, I'd love to raise awareness of #asthmaandlunguk & the amazing benefits of their support groups. By attending their singing, harmonica & seated zumba every week & learning techniques which have strengthed my lungs & given me coping techniques when having an attack. Before I found A+LUK I was in a v bad way & couldn't laugh, talk, cry or even get to my front door without losing my breath, which was always terrifying for me & anyone else who saw it. Since using the support groups & strengthening my lungs, I can do so much more (hence the half marathon) & can now do a proper belly laugh. I do still struggle with my breathing at times, but I'm better able to cope. I used to wake up every night not being able to take a breath & it was terrifying, but that hasn't happened for a few years now. I now sleep v soundly again. I was called by a researcher from #Bbcnews #bbclondon #bbclookeast & I'm hoping that they'll follow my #royalparkshalfmarathon journey on boxing day. Thanks again for all your support x

A bump in the road.

Thursday 5th Dec
I'm having 1 of those days where I'm feeling completely overwhelmed & shattered & everything feels so hard & stressy. I'm on charge at the mo & it's taking ages & is still weird & molly's after attention, but i have to lay still while I'm charging. I'm organising electrician & boiler engineers, attended AGM for the rainbow charity & had to sing in front of loads of people, had to post things for ebay, using QR codes on my phone, sorting out my pension & having to use an encryption email service & complete forms on my phone, which is really hard with my hands & fingers & then send them back on this special stupid encryption email thingy & I've got no idea if I've done it right or if it's been received. It's just 1 of those days where it feels like it's everything all at once. Hopefully, tomorrow will be better

Sunday 17th Nov
getting this body & lungs strong again is so hard after 2 months of inactivity while I recovered from spinal cord stimulator surgery.

On charge

Tuesday 5th Nov
I'm a month post op & healing really well. I'm getting used to all the tech as I now have to recharge the battery in my tummy every month. It takes around an hour & requires me to lay still for an hour so that there is an excellent connection between the battery & recharger. I had my post op assessment yesterday & they're really happy with me starting my training back up again so that I can do the half marathon on boxing day, which is the day that I'll be 12 weeks post op & will have my full range of movement back. So I've agreed with asthma and lung uk that I'll be doing the Royal Parks half marathon on boxing day, hopefully I'll be able to get extra donations on the day from sales shoppers who will be out & about.

On the road back to health.

Saturday 13th Jul
I've not updated my page for ages. I've been quite poorly this year & haven't been able to be as physical as I'd hoped. Sometimes I can get my body moving, but don't have the lung capacity to keep up with me & the less I do physically the worse my lung capacity is & then I do less physically which affects my physical disabilities. I know I should listen to my body, but I wish just once that it would listen to me so that I can break this cycle of inactivity & be healthier again. I've done it before & I know I'll get back there again but right now it gets me so down when I feel like this along with feeling useless. That's why asthma and lung uk are so important to me. Their helpline is literally a lifeline & their support groups are life changing. So I'm getting back on the fitness & fundraising train.

Thank you Eileen
