LLHM 2025

Saturday 25th Jan

In the year I turn 40, I thought what better way to challenge myself than run a half marathon! This is something I never would have dreamt of or aspired to before.

While exploring London with my family last year, we stumbled upon the London Landmarks Half Marathon 2024. Seeing the participants with their medals afterward inspired me to sign up for the race myself.

After finishing the Couch to 5K jogging program a couple of years ago, I enjoyed completing a casual weekly jog for 30 minutes, fitting it into my routine. This is something I am proud to say I have stuck with. I am now looking to push myself “slightly” more!

As we all know, running in an event such as this is a fantastic opportunity to raise money for charity and I wanted to choose one in memory of two special people I was blessed to have had as family. I will be running in support of Asthma & Lung UK, a charity that believes everyone has the right to breathe freely, offering support to those affected by lung conditions and the funding of research into treatment and prevention.

My dear Dad, Michael, passed away in April 2022 at the age of 69. In the final years of his life, his health deteriorated significantly, and he was diagnosed with COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). My Dad, once an avid walker, could no longer walk any distance without becoming breathless and needing to rest. A mobility scooter provided him with some degree of freedom. While jogging, I often think of him and how he would have cherished the ability to walk freely, as he did in his earlier years.

My Mum’s partner, John, passed away last summer from lung cancer. Thankfully, he maintained his active lifestyle of walking and dancing with my Mum until his final couple of months. John always loved spending time with us, and he is also deeply missed as a beloved member of our family.

I plan to take the "slow and steady" approach on the day of the LLHM 2025, but I'm excited to embrace this challenge!

If you can donate or share my fundraising page in support of Asthma & Lung UK, I would greatly appreciate it.

With many thanks,

Cheryl
