Every minute, someone in the UK is diagnosed with lung disease. I want to make a difference. I'm running the Royal Parks Half Marathon 2024 for Asthma + Lung UK, the only UK charity that fights for everyone’s right to breathe. Every pound I'm able to raise will take us a step closer to a world where everyone has healthy lungs.

Just £22 allows one of Asthma + Lung UK's nurses to answer a call on the Helpline, offering potentially lifesaving advice. I'd be very grateful for any donations you could make!

Running in Loving Memory of My Mum: Help Me Raise Funds for Lung Fibrosis Research

Thursday 10th Oct
On Sunday 13th October, I’ll be lacing up my shoes to run the Royal Parks Half Marathon in memory of my beautiful mother, Bhavini Shah. Earlier this year, at just 58 years young, Mum lost her courageous battle with lung fibrosis, a cruel and progressive lung disease that affects the delicate tissue of the lungs, making it increasingly difficult to breathe. Her passing left a void that will never be filled, but I’m choosing to honour her memory in a way that reflects her own spirit… by supporting others.

Why I’m Running

Lung fibrosis is an often-overlooked illness, affecting countless individuals and families who are devastated by its irreversible impact. It’s a condition that slowly scars and thickens lung tissue, making even the simplest breaths harder to take. For many, as it was with my Mum, the diagnosis comes too late and treatment options are heartbreakingly limited. I am raising funds for Asthma + Lung, a charity dedicated to funding essential research, increasing awareness and finding new ways to prevent, treat and one day, cure lung fibrosis and similar respiratory diseases. Their work not only advances scientific understanding but offers hope to those currently facing this disease and the families supporting them.

About My Mum, Bhavini Shah

My Mum was one of the kindest, most selfless people you could ever meet. She was known for her radiant spirit, a warmth that could brighten any room and a generosity that had no limits. No matter what she was going through, she put others first, facing each obstacle in life with such grace and resilience. She taught me so much about compassion, kindness and staying positive, even when life brings unexpected challenges.

Though her absence is deeply felt, her legacy lives on through the love she shared and the kindness she inspired. She always believed in lifting others up and through this half marathon, I hope to honour her memory in a way that will help other families, just as she would have wanted.

Preparing for the race has been physically and mentally taxing but knowing I’m doing this for Mum and for such an important cause keeps me going. Every donation, no matter the size, will make a difference.
