Cardiff Half Marathon 2025

I’m running Cardiff Half Marathon in the fight for breath!

Every minute, someone in the UK is diagnosed with lung disease. I want to make a difference. I'm running Cardiff Half Marathon 2025 for Asthma + Lung UK, the only UK charity that fights for everyone’s right to breathe. Every pound I'm able to raise will take us a step closer to a world where everyone has healthy lungs.

Just £22 could go towards Health Care Advisors and Respiratory Specialists supporting someone with the information they need to live well.

Any support would be amazing in my fight for lung health!

My Updates

For John Howie. My Dad.

Thursday 10th Oct
13th of June 2014 - my 26th birthday. My favourite time of year! I went to see my Dad before I started work. He always wanted to wish me a happy birthday in person. So I went to see him, and then I had to leave for work. Never did I imagine that later on that evening I’d get a call while I was on shift telling me that my dad had collapsed with cardiac arrest. He went without oxygen for 25 minutes. Whilst on my way home I was told he had passed. The worst imaginable pain I have ever experienced and I hope to god it’ll be the last time I feel that pain.
He was sent to hospital and it turns out there was a little something left in him to be able to be on life support. Although his heart beat for the very last time on its own on my birthday, he had assistance for myself and brother and sister to be able to say goodbye. On the 16th of June, Father’s Day, his life support had been turned off and he took his last breath while I held his hand and told him “you can go now”.

He was suffering with COPD especially in the last few years of his life, but never did we think he’d have gone so suddenly. We thought he’d at least have a few years left.

It’s a silent killer. There are not enough people who know about it and the sh*t storm it leaves behind. I had spent my whole life with him and from the age of 1/2 years old it was just me and my Dad until he met my step mother. Life will never be the same without him. My life truly has been turned upside down.

I want to run this half marathon to raise awareness and help people understand more about it as well as hopefully teach some to look after themselves better to preventing any risk of this disease.

COPD is often referred to as “smokers disease” but is not limited to those who have smoked. My dad unfortunately had this nasty habit and I’d love for people to understand that they don’t need to be heightening their risk of this horrible disease over a nasty habit that costs enough money too. The same goes for vaping. There are statistics to show that vaping also helps increase the likelihood of this awful disease.

We are so lucky to be in a generation where young people know what smoking does and we are in a position where we can make better life choices. My dad started smoking as a young teenager, not knowing the risks. Why are we allowing children and young adults to repeat the same mistakes with a brightly coloured tasty vape?

So I am running this half marathon, with no running experience and carrying 3 stone more than I should to spread the awareness that’s needed.

If anyone has any spare change or availability to make a donation to this cause, I’d be eternally grateful 🙏🏻 thank you so much for supporting me in my new journey 💜
